Airplanes in WW1
On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk with their first powered aircraft. The Wright brothers had invented the first successful airplane. Over a Decade later the airplane is used as a weapon of war. Airplanes are powered flying vehicles with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces.
The airplane was invented as a means of travel until WW1 ,almost a decade after Wilber and Orville Wright had their first flight, it was now used as a military device.
An airplane is: a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces
Airplanes: The Impacts and Consequences
Airplanes were a new means of transportation until the war, in 1911 Italians, at war with Turkey and Libya, became the first to use the airplane as a military use as a weapon, dropped grenades from a German built monoplane. 1912- They also dropped bombs from a airship.
Total deaths in WW1- 10 million
Deaths Caused by airplanes- 200,000 (Only 2% of the total death was caused by airplanes.)
Airplanes (biplanes) during WW1 only reached speeds of 100mph and were made of wood and canvas, when shots were fired and caught in fire the problem would spread quickly and spelled certain death for their occupants.
Airplanes made it fast and easy for aerial attacks on enemies from above, on soldiers in trenches or on base. They saught out the enemy from the sky finding their locations and seeing if they were making any acts apon another. To the leaders the airplanes came in handy because if they were thinking of launching an attack they would have the enmeys location, and the upperhand if they were to attack.

The Positives-easy aerail attacks
-Veiw of the enemy |
The Negatives-easily flammable
-made out of terrible materials not very fast |
Airplanes: Connections to Today
Airplanes have been through alot of serious transformations in the past century between demolishing and rebuildings its a cycle of new designs and inventions that has made the modern day military airplane. One of the new modern day aircrafts that we use is the 747-400F aircraft with a similar wing shape and air dynamic structure. Since World War 1 the designs and technology of these airplanes have changed dramaticly to the missle and gun range growing into a full force attack in just one vehikle, instead of a fleet of aircrafts like in WW1. They have also changes in durability from wood and canvas to metals, no longer easliy flammable. Airplanes today are used world wide for transportation, weapons, shipping of goods or products, and privite acsessable trips. The U.S. uses airplanes like Air force 1, to transfer the president and associates safely. The Millitary uses airplanes of carriers, for soldiers and artillery, we also use them to get place to place everyday worldwide. Such as the Rockwell B-1 Lancer used as a bomber for the U.S. military (Only supersonic bomber aircraft active in the U.S. Air Force still in use). http://www.List_of_active_United_States_military_aircraft/usa Rockwell B-1 Lancer: Belongs to Boeing First flight23 December 1974 Introduction1 October 1986 StatusIn service Primary user United States Air Force Produced1973–74, 1983–88 Number builtB-1A: 4 B-1B: 100 Unit cost US $283.1 million in 1998 (B-1B)[1] Corporate headquarters are located in Chicago, IL Other located on Military manufacturing bases |
